Special Events and celebrations in 2009

Enjoy a range of colourful, fun and exciting events and festivals throughout the year. From local farmers markets and food festivals to living history and jousting tournaments, a year-long celebration of events gives you the chance to experience England's England as never before. Meet local people, discover specialities and traditions and enjoy quality entertainment. Seasonal events from Easter egg hunts to summer music concerts and spooky Halloween to Christmas markets offer fun and enjoyment whatever the time of year.

In 2009 we will be celebrating a number of anniversaries and new attractions including:

  • The launch of the recreated lost Elizabethan Gardens at Kenilworth Castle, due to re-open in spring 2009
  • The year of the Mini at the Heritage Motor Centre, celebrating the small cars 50th anniversary
  • The year of the garden at Ragley Hall
  • Sulgrave Manor are celebrating the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first Washington in Virginia
  • 400 years since the Shakespeare Sonnets were printed for the first time
  • 5 year anniversary of Compton Verney
  • 799 years of Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Redwings Horse Sanctuary are celebrating their silver jubilee

Gold medal awarded at The Royal Show - The coveted "Gold Award" for prize beef has been awarded to local butchers - Rightons of Shipston.  This long standing family business is very proud of the Award and Julia Cook says; "As a traditonal butcher we place great store in achieving the very highest of standards -this award emphasises and gives credit to that standard"
