page heading

Another Warwickshire town steeped in history with castle ruins to hold you spellbound.  According to the entry in the 1086 Domesday Book, Kenilworth was once a small settlement of approximately 100 villagers,  set in the Forest of Arden and belonging to the Royal Manor of Stoneleigh.

Kenilworth Castle was once one of the greatest strongholds in England. Throughout its life the castle had considerable additions before its destruction as a fortification at the end of the English Civil War (1649). Today, it stands as the finest ruined castle in England.

Near the magnificent castle ruins are the Abbey Fields which are a pleasure to stroll through.

Seek out "Little Virginia" and discover the delightful thatched cottages and old houses set around the castle and the St Mary's Abbey ruins Kenilworth is a firm favourite for eveyone with its wide selction of pubs, restaurants and shops.

St Nicholas' Church

St Nicholas' Church is situated in High Street, and looks  over Abbey Fields.

The exact date of its founding isn’t known, but by 1291 it was in the patronage of the Priory of Kenilworth. The magnificently decorated Norman Porch at the western entrance of St Nicholas Church was removed from the Abbey ruins by Robert Dudley as part of the repairs to the Church.

Queen Elizabeth I is reputed to have visited the church on at least two occasions.
